have you ever found yourself feeling a bit down on your luck in the absence of your loved ones? everything is flowing smoothly, when all of a sudden, it hits you…. the feeling of loneliness, and, the fear of being left deserted. it’s not something you put a whole lot of thought into; if anything, its something you constantly look to avoid.
nevertheless, the perfect sequence of events happen, and, before you notice, you’re caught up in the whirlwind. you look up, and quickly gaze around from left, to right…. and, within seconds, you notice yourself caught up in a daze, and look around to see if anyone else notices you….
the best resort, while trying not to panic, is, to simply shake it off…. stop thinking about it; discard what you’ve noticed. realistically, you aren’t alone…. although, you may be by yourself, right?
being by yourself…. what does that mean, anyways?
to “be by yourself” means spending time alone without the company of others. it involves engaging in activities, thoughts, or experiences in solitude. being by yourself provides an opportunity for self-reflection, relaxation, or pursuing personal interests without external influences. spending time by yourself gives you time to connect with your own thoughts, emotions, and preferences without the presence or distractions of others.
“Knowing how to be solitary is central to the art of loving. When we can be alone, we can be with others without using them as a means of escape.”
―Bell Hooks

one tried-and-true method for overcoming feeling of loneliness and fears of desertion, is, to create positive affirmations that serve as your ‘superhero mantras’. repeat them daily to reinforce a positive self-image. for example, “I am strong, I am resilient, I am capable.”
